Cookie Tuesday
A young server on my cruise ship last year, gave me this hand-embroidered tapestry of a famous Chinese heroine:
Her name is 阿诗玛 Āshīmǎ,
and her story is told as an epic poem, carried on the notes and rhythms of the Sani oral tradition.
Āshīmǎ’s name means “more precious than gold." She is a beautiful girl, born of the Sani people (a subset of China’s Yi people).
Her story is an allegory of the Sani’s own: proclaiming a sure faith that darkness will inevitably be overcome by light, and infamy will inevitably be overcome by kindness, and beauty.
I hope we can carry this same spirit and hope that Ashima represents where we are going.
